Deconstruction of the Pincushion

Here I took an object that has so much nostalgia in my personal life. My Granny owned a pin cushion and was an excellent seamstress, like so many other women from her generation. Sewing was rather common to know and understand in her youth. Now it's not as common to have that understanding. Here I deconstruct the pin cushion for a few reasons, after my Granny's passing objects that reminded me of her still brought back great memories but the object also brought on grief. I deconstruct the pincushion to break apart this physical object to understand why it's contents brought on such strong emotions and feelings. During this painting process I made discoveries within, realizing that not only would an object be a catalyst to remind me of her, but it would remind me she is always with me and that is not fragmented. In fact her presence and meaning will always be strong, anchoring me into reminders of a constant loving presence...... <3
